《形聲多兼會意考》一書,為黃先生在文字學相關論述中最為重要的著作。本書所以撰著,蓋因先生深知「經學之紹隆,端在小學之闡明,而小學之闡明,端在形聲義之通貫。」然而由於「前型邈然,後儒因循,以至是說但存崖略,而未稱精完。」有關形聲載義相關研究,雖已初具規模,卻未見周備。是以博綜古今,列論形聲字聲符載義一千零一十五類型,並依喉牙舌齒脣四十一聲紐之次第,以「凡從某得聲之字多有某之義」為例,列敘形聲載義條例九十三條。條理清析,層次井然,不僅對形聲多兼會意理論的發明,具有相當重大之意義;對《說文》六書中形聲、會意的結構分析與辨識,具有正本清源的效用。誠如黃先生在列論諸家理論優缺點時所云,儘管前輩學者之論述縱橫旁達,偶有濫登掛失亟待後人梳理者,必也難免。因此,在時空移易,材料取得與辨識都較過去便捷的情況下,提出幾個因個人主觀認知或因客觀材料呈現解讀不同而造成與黃先生說解參差的疑惑,一來請求方家釋疑,再者借此申議黃先生形聲多兼會意理論,同時對黃先生在形聲載義相關理論上的創獲,表示昀高敬意。 ”Research of Phonetic complexes with ideogrammic functions” is the most important one of Mr. Huang's masterpieces in Chinese Script field. There is unprecedented innovation of the theory in this book. He analyzed 1015 types of and gave 93 examples to support his statement. It's helpful to clarify the theory construction. Because of new data come out by the past time, here I have different opinion form those of Mr. Huang. However, I still pay my respect for Mr. Huang.
