伊斯蘭中土的現代復興改革運動，特別是中東地區，透過伊斯蘭網路的傳播影響了整個伊斯蘭世界。印尼素為伊斯蘭網路的一環，因此其伊斯蘭的現代發展亦受到中東的思潮所影響。而在中東伊斯蘭的復興改革中，傳統伊斯蘭教育尤為要項。無疑地，印尼的伊斯蘭教育亦步上中東伊斯蘭教育改革的模式。本論文試圖就印尼現代伊斯蘭發展歷史脈絡探索傳統經學院（pesantren）教育內涵的改變，以之將印尼伊斯蘭的發展與中東伊斯蘭的變遷做連結，證明伊斯蘭世界宗教文化發展的整體性，並指出印尼伊斯蘭研究之國際化走向。 Modern Islamic renewal (tajdid) and reform (islah) which inaugurated in the Middle East have spread throughout the Islamic world via Islamic network. Indonesia has been part of Islamic world, and certainly the development of Islam there has been influenced by the Islamic trends in the Middle East, especially in the aspect of Islamic education. This essay attempts to explore the transformation of traditional Islamic institution of education in Java, the pesantren system. The transformation is regarded as part of modern Islamic reform and renewal in Indonesia. It implies that religio-cultural development in Indonesia is to follow that of the Middle Eastern mode, and to keep up with the Western academic institutions. This essay is to show that Indonesia has been strongly linked with that in the Middle East in the course of pesantren educational development. It is also to prove that Indonesian Islam has been progressing within the Islamic network.
