| 摘要: | 在這個時間就是金錢的時代，時鐘成了不管在家庭辦公室學校等許多場所必備的產品，因應用的場所不同，於是演變成不同的造型或是擁有多功能的時鐘，似乎功能越多，就代表越獨特，但是人們也漸漸忽略時間本身無可取代的魅力。時間，是將三度空間的變化，轉化為每個人都能瞭解的代名詞，時鐘是再將時間轉變成能讀取的刻度與符號，然而事實上，時間也只是人類在無限大的宇宙裡，自行給予定義，而這部份並非本研究所探討的重點，所以之後只會提出相關資料而不再深入敘述。 書法中蘊含著意義，但是這些意義的內容是什麼？書法又是如何的來傳達這些意義？如果對這些問題的答案有所了解，不但可以幫助我們更了解書法，進一步可以充實我們的設計理論，但是書法意義難以掌握，如何尋求一種合乎邏輯與具有規則性理論基礎的方法來探討書法意義，是一個重要的課題。 除了文字本身所代表的意義之外，字體也具有其獨到的美感，另外音樂、舞蹈也歸類於時間藝術之下，皆因它們是在時間中開展進行以至結束，但是書法是世上唯一可以在時間中欣賞並完成的視覺藝術作品，這個特質在有書法以來便存在，至今不變。由這點看來時鐘也具有與書法相同的特性，其價值是靠其意義的內容來表達，而不只是靠其組成的元素來表現，因此，故選定以書法的藝術表現，作為時鐘造型的設計構想。
