Aech is one of three special administrative divisions(Jakarta, Aceh and Yogyakarta) which belong to Republic of Indonesia. Aech is the first place that Muslim founded in Malaya and a region that believe in Muslim most. Aech, the renowned address “Serambi Mekkah”, takes a unique position in both Muslim religion and cultural communication. Because Aech has long been different form the national ideology “Pancasila” declared by Indonesian nationalists, Aech established Gerakan Aech Merdeka (GAM) in 1979 and started armed operation against central government which caused uncountable casualties. The subject of this research is the relationship between Aech historical context and the development of GAM. Through Historical Research Method and Imagined Communities by Benedict Anderson, the research tries to probe into the interaction process between GAM and nationalism development in Indonesia. The research concluded that: Although there were various historical, regional and religious backgrounds, the key turning point was the transformation from Indonesia nationalism into Javanese nationalism, which aggravated the original religious appeal into separation, and then confliction between Indonesia and Aech afterward. On December 26 2004, the Indonesia tsunami had become a turning point of peace negotiation between Indonesia government and Aech rebels, that they gradually reached the consensus of permanent truce. In 2006, Aech held the first governor election after the negotiation. The success of Aech election had further rooted democracy and lighted up the tower of peace.
