Art investment is an ideal method to manage our finances and enjoy our life. An auction company is playing an intermediate role between sellers and buyers in the art market. The Art trading activities always run in the fair and public principles. Buyers with higher prices can gain the bid by means of price competition. Taiwan art auction market began in year 1990. After two international auction companies Sotheby and Christie’s are led into Taiwan, Taiwan art auction companies are promoted to be established one after another. Analyzing the operation status of Taiwan art auction companies could be discussed in the way of location, organization members and auction articles. Annual turnovers, first opening auction, sale price of one-piece artist auction and quantity rate are indexes to evaluate the operation strategy and management results for an auction company. Taiwan Art auction market has been going through developing phase, great prosperity phase and present facing recession in short period during 1990 to 2002, which intends all kinds of running problems in the market. Those are badly in need of solutions. The roll for an auction company is an intermediator, who closely connects between international and domestic auction companies, meanwhile also between art museums, galleries, art commentators and collectors. Unfortunately, auction related regulations are still not legislated in the Taiwan Laws. Though current auction regulations used by auction companies have no big differences, unequal treaties such as genuineness not guaranteed, commission cost and exception duties and so on are not ensured. It will cause buyers lack of reliability for the purchase. Conclusively speaking, the problems shown in the Taiwan art auction market including professional ability, management strategy, market segmentation, institutionalized regulations and market morality are anxiously required to be improved. This dissertation has also aimed at crucial problems to propose suggestions for governmental departments, auction companies and collectors, which wishes to lead Taiwan Art auction market into a right track with sustained development. |
