The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of “Zen” meditation on treatments of hypertension toward the hypertensive patients. Forty-seven testers have participated in this research experiment. Among them, twenty-five hypertensive patients were selected, while the rest of the twenty-two testers were served as control. All the subjects took a twenty-one-day of Zen meditation course at the same period of time and same location. During the course, every one of them received a five-minute HRV test before, between and after the meditations sessions. Meanwhile, the questionnaires were collected from testers before and after the meditations to get their subjective perceptions. The statistics analyses were conducted. Obviously, “Zen” meditation training has remarkable influence on the changes of hypertension patients’ systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) as well as their heartbeat rate (HRT) and pressure index (PSI) were dropped down, Particularly, on the hypertension patients, the measuring index for SDNN, RMSSD, total power(TP), high frequency(HF), low frequency(HF) all reach significant (p<.05) decreased. In addition, the data indicated that hypertension patients who received meditations have apparent shown improvement on their illness conditions after taking a twenty-one-day “Zen” meditation training. Among them, emotional and stress had hundred percents improved, where as their digestive systems were eighty-two percents improved while sport immune system was sixty-four percents improved, and respiratory system and urinary system were fifty percents improved. It is pleasing that the patients have comfortable feeling of healthy and happiness feeling as risen at a range of twenty-one percents, the feeling of being energetic rose nineteen percents, and emotion stability rose eighteen percents. There were also obvious differences on other factors examined. These data strongly indicated that “Zen” meditation has provided a significant improvement in lowering blood pressure and other important circulation and other parameters, such as balancing the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous systems of the hypertensive patients. The data also indicated that it could to be used as anti-hypertensive effects and an adherence to the western medicines and eastern herbals for the treatments of hypertension. The “Zen” meditation also can be recommended as a potential natural healing of hypertension if the patients continuously practice through out their cultivations.
