The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among adolescents' personality traits, leisure attitudes, and leisure activities preferences. The subjects of research are students of a certain national institute in Taichung chosen by means of random cluster sampling. A total of 725 questionnaires were sent out, with 704 of them bringing in effective samples. By using statistical tools of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation, the data have been analyzed to reveal the following results: 1. The personality traits of adolescents mostly incline toward "agreeableness," and are less characterized by "negative dominance." 2.In terms of leisure attitude, adolescents lay more stress on leisure recognition; different genders, ages, socio-economic status, monthly expenses for leisure activities, time for leisure activities, and personality traits will affect their leisure preferences. 3. Adolescents' participation in leisure activities is not perfect. The categories of their leisure activities lean toward "sensual entertainment activities," with the lowest rate of participation in "outdoor activities"; in terms of items of activities, the first three items of activities preferred by adolescents are respectively: going online at home, listening to music, and watching TV, which are relatively static indoor activities. 4. In terms of the relationship between personality traits and leisure attitudes of adolescents, it has been found that: the trait of "negative dominance" is significantly inversely related with "leisure recognition," "leisure affect," and "leisure attitude." 5. In terms of the relationship between adolescents' personality traits and their leisure activities preferences, it has been found that: The higher the score of "extroversion," the higher the degree of leisure preference for "social activities." 6. In terms of the relationship between adolescents' leisure attitudes and their leisure preferences, it has been found that: on the level of "leisure behavior," their leisure attitudes are significantly directly related with all types of leisure activities. |
