Abstract:	佛教自創立開始，雖不以學問作為其核心，但僧團中確是知識份子的聚集之處。事實上，當時印度的社會，要受高等教育，唯有向大宗教家親近學習，西藏也是如此。隨著歷史的發展，寺院教育幾乎成為西藏主要的教育形式。在藏傳佛教各派中，格魯派除了教育經驗豐富之外，其教育制度更是健全完備。十七世紀以後，格魯派成為西藏的政教共主，在其主導下，西藏社會的政教及轉世制度更加緊密結合。隨著現代化社會的變遷，對政教及轉世制度可能產生重大的改變，格魯派乃至藏傳佛教的發展，寺院教育是其中的關鍵，影響甚巨。
