At the end of the late Qing Dynasty, the tide of the times swept through the panic of the hinterland, and intellectuals began to accept it with horror and to think of ways to respond. Whether they tried to learn from the Western world by adopting new modern theories, or returned to their own systems of thoughts in order to find values and nutrients that could be reused, it is clear that thinking and discernment had become the dominant science of the time. In the realm of thought, Confucianism and Taoism have deeply infused intellectuals since the pre-Qin period, and the introduction of Buddhism during the Wei and Jin dynasties, it has led to a connected and complex relationship with intellectuals. The subject of the integration of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism has been presented in different times and in different trends of thoughts. Zhang Taiyan's "Explanation of Qiwu" attempts to unpack Buddhism in an attempt to integrate the ideas of Daoist Thought and to find an opportunity to respond to the new era. In this paper, we analyze the interpretation of Zhuangzi's "loss of self" in "The Explanation of Qiwuwu", and present the new meaning of the thoughts in Zhuangzi and Buddhist mind-only theory to further advocate equality and freedom.
