    Abstract: 古之學者，歸納早期文字以分析研究，進而有六書理論之說。設問當今學子以「六書次第」，十有八九莫不答以：「象形、指事、會意、形聲、轉注、假借。」然而「假借居於六書之末」之說，筆者向有疑慮，不以為然矣！筆者考察殷墟甲骨文文獻之文字記載，從中悉知：當「象形」字首出先行於世，而「指事」、「會意」、「形聲」字猶在「倉頡氏」醞釀之際，其「假借」造字功能早已如影隨形，憑「語音」媒介而依附於部分「象形」字之中，並已嫺熟活用。故言「假借」之次第，實際未必僵硬排行殿末也。是故學子與其人云亦云，言必稱「假借次第居於六書之末」，則毋寧正名為「假借次第未必居於六書之末」，增字全義，以正視聽。
