The Jia Ren hexagram of I Ching, which is based on the family structure in patriarchal society, emphasizes that women must be submissive and humble and provide methods for managing a family and establishing family rules. When people deviate from traditional social values in the present, the concept of family is challenged. A critical concern in this paper was how to free the Jia Ren hexagram from the limitation of gender and break the chain of "yin and yang", "gender", and "family" to develop a new dimension of family and to combine the relationships between family members. In this study, the spatial domain "fire below and wind above" was used to compare with the medicine-manufacturing domain of the relationship between wind and fire in the book Journey to the West to interpret the Jia Ren hexagram. This study used the characters, plots, and metaphors in Journey to the West and applied abstract elements to concrete scenarios to interpret the meaning of the hexagram. This study also analyzed the plot of Journey to the West to explain the gua yao ci (divination records of hexagrams and lines) and to explore the meaning of family and the new relationships between family members.
