    Abstract: 近年來,國內大學通識教育的推展工作,已從理念的推廣及溝通,逐漸地進入課程實施環節的落實及改進。過去通識教育的實施,常常背負著營養與浮濫的惡名。鑑此,本文嘗試從科學哲學家T. Kuhn著名的「必要張力」概念出發,藉以檢驗通識課程設計上所應該秉持的理念。透過兩門通識課程的作業設計作為媒介,本文旨在說明通識課程開課的過程中,如果過於向「收斂」及「發散」的任兩個極端傾斜,一極端是可能步入劣幣逐良幣的惡性循環中,另一極端則可能淘空了通識教育的學術根基。因此不論在課程內部或是課程與課程之間,適需要在「收斂」與「發散」保持一種必要的張力關係,方能真正落實通識教育的理想。
