    Abstract: 近年來，國內大學通識教育的推展工作，已從理念的推廣及溝通，逐漸地進入課程實施環節的落實及改進。過去通識教育的實施，常常背負著營養與浮濫的惡名。鑑此，本文嘗試從科學哲學家T. Kuhn著名的「必要張力」概念出發，藉以檢驗通識課程設計上所應該秉持的理念。透過兩門通識課程的作業設計作為媒介，本文旨在說明通識課程開課的過程中，如果過於向「收斂」及「發散」的任兩個極端傾斜，一極端是可能步入劣幣逐良幣的惡性循環中，另一極端則可能淘空了通識教育的學術根基。因此不論在課程內部或是課程與課程之間，適需要在「收斂」與「發散」保持一種必要的張力關係，方能真正落實通識教育的理想。
